WEEK 9

24 MARCH 2024:   NEW YORK All went smoothly once we were in New York, I got off early but had to wait for hubby who first had to wait for the ambulance to pick up a patient before he could get off, so I had to wait for him just outside the terminal building. Nearly froze while waiting for was very cold with an icy wind blowing, I put on everything I could, earmuffs, k-way jacket hoody, used his beany over my gloves and still cold. Your feet start feeling numb from the standing and cold. Once he came, we walked to a café not to far from the port area but must admit was not the best food so that was a quick in and out. We did not have lots of time so rather went back to the warm terminal building. So, all my plans of doing my last rounds were not going to happen this time round and did not feel like walking around in the freezing cold. We left later that planned due to our late arrival and were informed again last night about bad weather on our way back to Bermuda whic...

WEEK 7

7 MARCH 2024: NEW YORK Well, what a nice surprise, no rain only overcast and the chill in the air has also disappeared, so got off and could walk to the different spots I wanted to see today. I first made my way to Café-Flor and popped in for an almond croissant and an americano coffee with all these beautiful fresh flowers and plants all over the little café must say really like this vibe and look. The florist was busy arranging bunches of flowers and had huge blossom branches in big glass vases, just beautiful. Next stop was looking for Ariston Flowers and Cafe in 5 th Avenue but had my heart rate going for was a long walk to get to it and wanted enough time just to look and enjoy. So was a brisk walk. Walked 12km so got my exercise in or should I say got my steps in for the day!!This little shop is also beautiful with the most stylish and stunning floral works of art! In the back of the shop, they have the café with beautiful arrangements all over on the walls. The...

WEEK 6

26 February 2024: NEW YORK CITY I had a fantastic day in the Big Apple, left early and went straight to the Chelsea district to try out the local coffee shops and pop in at others just to have a look to see what they look like. Walked down 8 th avenue and could have a good look at the High Line from street level. My first stop was at the Intelligentsia Coffee shop in the High Line Hotel must say was a bit disappointed for on the photos it is decorated with all these colorful flowers and the red bus outside area was closed, so went into the hotel foyer area and there I ordered a cappuccino and an almond croissant which was good. Just around the corner I found a church with daffodils bulbs that were peeping through the ground and on my way passed a basket with flowering daffodils which looked so bright and beautiful in the gloomy brown look around the city. This café was called LA BERGAMOTE PATISSERIE with the most delicious looking cakes and all sorts of nice things to eat. Po...

WEEK 5

16 FEBRUARY 2024: NEW YORK Last night was one of those busy nights with hubby coming and going right through the night, so did not have a good night! We were both tired when it was time to get up this morning, I got up and tipped toed around not to wake him and left him to sleep until he had to get up! Decided to skip breakfast and get off early to enjoy the beautiful day in New York so left hubby behind for he could only get off at about 11. Was another very cold day in the Big Apple with the snow still lying around but did not feel as cold as the first time round, think they said 2,3 degrees today and not – 2.3. The windchill is the problem when you are walking around outside, all you have open is your nose and eyes, everything else is covered up and you don’t really care what you look like, just want to be warm. Central Park had snow lying around and in the open spaces blankets of snow to see, The Pond had an area of the pond/water iced with pieces of ice lying on the ic...

WEEK 4

6 FEBRUARY 2024: NEW YORK CITY Today we were late due to the tides, something to do with sailing in on the Hudson River and under the bridge have seen when we sail out not much leeway. So realized that today was going to be a busy day with us docking later than usual, so you need to book a flight late afternoon just in case something like this happens. Was -2.6 degrees outside so still very cold and you needed all the warm clothing you have. I decided to visit my favorite bakery, Levain’s for a croissant and an americano coffee, was my breakfast for the day, so that was heaven after the walk in the cold. In the bakery they had hand warmers that I have never seen before did not even know you get things like that, they come in a packet that you activate once you open it and gives you up to 10 hours of heat how amazing is that. Popped in at a very old barber shop close to Central Park and asked if I could take a few photos and a video, just loved that, felt like going back in ti...

WEEK 3

27 JANUARY 2024: NEW YORK Sailed into New York early morning but this morning we were lazy to get up, some days you just feel like chilling and sleeping late but we had to get going for I had to be off the ship by 9, because all the passengers need to be off the ship so that it can be cleared by the local authorities before the next passengers can get on, so n hele proses. I had a quick breakfast and off I went wanted to see what the Little Island is all about, have seen it from the ship when we sail out every week and just looked so interesting. We are docked at Pier 88, and I needed to get to Pier 55 so is a bit of a walk but was a nice day and not freezing like on last visit. Here and there I saw piles of snow still lying around. They call this island in the Hudson River an urban oasis it was designed by Barry Diller in 2013 after Hurricane Sandy and he wanted to create an experience with art and nature. I really enjoyed my time there and had such fun with music chimes o...
